Fruits & Spices

Zanzibar, Tanzania

Photo Gallery

In a Zanzibar spice farm: (1) The flower of a star fruit tree (also known as carambola). (2) Cloves: They are flowers and their name comes from the French “clou” (i.e. nail). Along with Zanzibar, cloves are commercially harvested also in Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Comoros, Kenya and Indonesia. The latter is the main producer, responsible for about 75 percent of the world’s total. (3) You know the cinnamon we use comes from the bark of the tree, but how often have you seen a cinnamon fruit before?
