Big Momma!

Sri Lanka

Photo Gallery

Blue whale mother and calf. These amazing creatures are believed to be the largest animals ever to have lived on earth. They can grow to 30m (100 ft), their tongues alone can weigh as much as an elephant and their hearts, as much as a car. A newly-born calf is about 8m (24 ft) long and weighs up to 2,700kg. Calves are helped to the surface of the water by their mothers and are often encouraged (nudged) by other females so that they can take their first breath of air.
